Praying for Christians in China as Olympics begins

China, the 17th on the ‘Open Doors‘ World Watch List is hosting this year’s Olympic games. It’s been so hard for Christians to practice their faith. No one seems to show up to help. Only God can do that. So the world is saying prayers for the country.

Already, the Chinese government has implemented sophisticated surveillance on people who attend churches —hence the installation of over a hundred face recognition cameras close to churches and other vantage points to track offenders.

Because of this prestigious event in China, the persecution of Christian is increasing. In view of that thousands of people from all around the world are praying for China. So far people from 94 countries have committed to pray for China.

Strong support is coming from Canada, the United States, and Australia as The Voice of the Martyrs calls for prayer.

“Oppressive religious regulations and persecution have increased significantly, led by and controlled by the national government in Beijing,” The Voice of the Martyrs says in their call to prayer.

Missionaries, Chinese Christians, and Monks are all facing persecution of all kinds. Christian leaders are the most targeted. The Chinese government harbors the fears that —these religious groups will gain root in the country. The government believes they will become too powerful to influence people.

As prayers are going on for the Olympics games in Beijing —everyone is invited to pray for the Christians living in China. Below is The Voice of the Martyrs prayer requests:

• Pray for pastors and church leaders to stand firmly for biblical truth in spite of government pressure to compromise.

• Pray for the encouragement of Chinese believers and that they will experience unity and fellowship as members of the body of Christ.

• Pray for Christians in prison. Pray for God’s protection over them, for their health and nutrition, and that they will have opportunities to witness for Christ to guards and fellow prisoners.

• Pray for the spread of the gospel among participants in the games and among local, provincial, and national Communist Party Leaders.

• Pray for the safe distribution of Bibles in every part of China.

The Olympics Games will start next month. There is a need for God’s intervention in this event. Peace, love, unity, and understanding have to prevail.

The Bible said, in the last days, many who believe in Jesus Christ will be persecuted. And this is the exact thing we are seeing in China and other countries. They have criminalized worship and heaved heavy burdens on Christians.

“Then they will hand you over to be persecuted and will kill you. You will be hated by all the nations because of my name.” (Mathew 24:9)

What the government of China is doing against Christians isn’t unprecedented. It is not the first time in history.

The early apostles also went through persecution. This is our days —it continues. But the Lord gives strength and protection to His children.

Prayers do work —so hopefully, God will listen to these thousands of people and protect his children.

The door is opened for anyone who would like to join the 8,000 volunteers who have committed to pray for China as this Winter Olympics game draws closer.
