What Does The Bible Say About Trust? The Curses And The Blessings

Christians often find it difficult in dealing with trust issues. But when you learn about what the Bible says about trust, you would not be afraid to give your heart and loyalty to God.
Trust issues are one of the most complicated topics in our world today. Starting with relationships with people to the relationship with God, it often calls for loyalty that can last forever.
But in our effort, certain challenges make us lose that loyalty —hence betraying one partner which ends up with serious consequences. A shattered trust causes a lot damage to the soul and the mind of the victim.
The Bible has extensive information about trusting people. Christians must therefore adhere to what the Bible says about trust and comply with them diligently.
Let me first draw your attention to the trust we put in a fellow human being. You may hear someone tell you “hey trust me.” What if the next day the person is gone?
It sounds very simple and encouraging but could that person maintain his trustworthiness? There is no guarantee for that. This is because he is a human being with many flaws. It takes the fear and strength of God to be a trustworthy person. Even that there would be setbacks because humans are fallible.
So care must be taken if you are putting your trust in humans. In fact, it is a sin if you trust in humans for safety, protection, help, comfort, etc at the expense of God. Oh yes! the Bible’s viewpoint on trust says confiding in a human being by rejecting God’s love, loyalty and strength is a sin. That is a kind of idolatry.
The Psalmist reminded us of how the pagan worshipers trusted in their handmade tools and goods but failed them bitterly by saying:
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalms 20:17).
Horses and chariots can not guarantee anyone’s safety or success. They are fragile and unreliable.
A Trustworthy Relationship With God
Now let, me quickly talk about the relationship mankind has with God. Yes, if you believe in God, then you must be faithful because He is always faithful.
The Bible on several occasions has said trust God. If you are praying for a miracle or any kind of help —have the confidence that God will never fail you.
God never lies, He is not weak nor forgetful. Such a Perfect Being in all respect deserves to be worshiped and trusted.
We have read about how he blessed those who trusted Him. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are examples. He is the same God who holds a trust record of never failing those who solely rely on Him.
The Bible is calling everyone to trust in the Lord for safety.
“… Listen to me, you people of Judah and residents of Jerusalem! Trust in the LORD your God and you will be safe! Trust in the message of his prophets and you will win.” (2 Corinthians 20:20
Again, Christians should entrust their future into the hands of the Lord. God knows the future. He has better plans for those who sincerely seek Him with all their heart.
“Commit your future to the LORD! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf.” (Psalms 37:9)
Curse Is The One Who Trusts In Humans And Idols
The Bible says you are a curse if you neglect the trustworthiness of God and confide in human strength, wisdom, or idols for whatever reason.
You will fail in the end because they are just creatures with flaws. The flawless One is our Lord Jesus Christ. He descended from heaven, lived among men without committing any sin.
He proved his power over nature and all other powers. There is nothing too big for him.
Being a faithful Christian will fetch you a lot of blessings. Because the Bible says, God is looking for those who will worship Him in truth and spirit. (John 4:24)
A Curse For Disobedient Children
According to the Bible anyone who failed to trust in God but gave their trust and loyalty to humans and gods failed in their endeavors. They never succeeded in the end.
Saul’s disobedience for instance cost him a lot: The Spirit of the Lord left him, he lost the throne of Israel. God drew Himself from him without answering his prayer when in dire need of direction to fight the Philistines.
He trusted in the help of a necromancer which did not end well for him. He died a tragic death. (1 Samuel 28)
“The LORD says, “I will put a curse on people who trust in mere human beings, who depend on mere flesh and blood for their strength, and whose hearts have turned away from the LORD” (Jeremiah 17:5)
Finally, the Bible says to trust in God —irrespective of your circumstances. Be patient and maintain that loyalty. In the end, the Lord will bless you.
Angels will fail you, humans will fail you, gods and any creature can’t guarantee your safety, success, happiness, and more importantly salvation.
It is only the Creator of Heaven and Earth. The Bible says:
“My blessing is on those people who trust in me, who put their confidence in me.” (Jeremiah 17:17)
If you are losing trust in the Lord; this is the time to reconsider your decision. Stay faithful because he is not a man that He should lie. Trust Him. Stay blessed!
