How Do Christians Grieve The Holy Spirit?

What Grieves The Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit of God grieves anytime a Christian sins. Eg, fornication, lies, theft, idolatry, gossip, etc, God frowns on sin because He is Holy.
Who Is The Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is the Comforter that Christ Jesus sent to help us in our daily walk with God. In His name together with the Father and the Son are believers baptized.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
The Christian religion is full of different denominations and doctrines. I’m, therefore, not here to talk about doctrines or statement of faith. Bear in mind that, the Spirit of God is actively working with all born-again Christians.
The Bible says he who does not have the Spirit of God within him doesn’t belong to Him. And since He who lives in you is greater than what is in the world (1 John 4:4) you must be strong and confident because the Lord is with you.
You must be very cautious while living in this crooked world so that you do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Always try your best to bear the fruit of the Spirit, not the fruit of the flesh that separates us from God.
This indwelling Spirit is the gift of grace, of adoption-the Holy Spirit poured into our hearts. This emboldens us to call God our Father. Those who are influenced by this Spirit “have crucified the flesh, with its affections and lusts,” as stated in Galatians 5:16-25.
The Spirit of God animates every true Christian. This helps to distinguish the children of God from the children of darkness, who are animated by the spirit of the world led by Satan.
He the Spirit of God helps us in so many ways to have decent spiritual lives with God. He animates us, pours his unction into our hearts, imparts to our lives and comforts us in times of trouble.
How Do We Grieve The Holy Spirit?
We “grieve” the Spirit of God by doing sinful things such as by standing against his holy inspirations, being lukewarm, despising his gifts, etc,
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30)
Instead of a Christian grieving the Holy Spirit, he must stir him up. In the book of 2 Timothy 1:6, the Bible says we “stir up” the Spirit of God which lives in us, by being obedient to his inspirations or exhibiting Christ-like attitudes.
What Does It Mean To Quench The Spirit?
To “quench the Spirit,” or “extinguish the Spirit” in 1Thessalonians 5:19, is a metaphorical expression that sends a simple meaning to all believers to withdraw from anything that contradicts his directives.
The Holy Spirit is represented as fire because he desires to enlighten and quicken the souls of all Christians. He purifies us and make us strong and worthy in the sight of God through the grace.
The Spirit may be quenched by forcing him to withdraw from us, through irregularity of life, frivolity, negligence, or other sins that contradict the fruit of the Spirit.
How A Friend Grieved And Quenched Spirit
I know a Christian friend who has the gift of the Holy Spirit. Paul sometimes calls it a “special ability.” This friend was full of the Spirit of God with many abilities that help him see in the spirit, hear and do many other things.
In short, he had all his spiritual senses activated. According to him, the pains and suffering he faced in life forced him to be ungrateful to God. He cried, felt hopeless, and bemoaned that God should take His gift from him.
This situation sometimes happens to even high-profile men of God who are highly anointed. Despite being able to speak in tongues, heal the sick, see vision and prophesy —their own life challenges can make them lose hope and interest to pursue the kingdom business.
This friend I’m talking about grieved the Holy Spirit by complaining bitterly about why God should allow him to go through temptation and other life struggles to the point of finding it hard to make ends meet.
This grieved the Holy Spirit and because of that, he lost part of his abilities to operate in the spirit as a Christian. His telepathic ability and others declined.
Before, he realized, he was not able to do some of the things he could do. He had to repent, confess, cry and pray for a long time before he could get back a portion of what he lost. He is still praying for more anointing to grow from grace to grace.
What happens when you quench the Spirit?
The Holy Spirit will leave his influence on you and leave your heart in a state of hardness and darkness. After that, the ruler of this world known as Satan will be glad to use you as a tool of sin.
In short, the words we speak or how we act can grieve the Holy Spirit. It is therefore important to live wisely in this crooked world by doing the will of God.
