Who Is Jonny Cash?

Johnny Cash was an American singer-songwriter, musician and actor. His Genres of songs include Country, rock and roll, blues and gospel.

Biography

Johnny Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas, on February 26, 1932. His mother’s name was Carrie Cloveree and his father’s name was Ray Cash.

He was raised by a poor family who was predominately cotton farmers in Kingsland, Arkansas. He began playing and writing songs at the age of 12. His mother and a childhood friend taught him how to play the guitar.

Cash started gaining popularity in the mid-1950s in the burgeoning rockabilly scene in Memphis, Tennessee.

Cash is known as one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He sold more than 90 million records worldwide.

Some of his signatures that made him popular were: “I Walk the Line”, “Ring of Fire”, “Get Rhythm”, and “Man in Black”.

Did Jonny Cash get married?

Cash married Vivian Liberto On August 7, 1954, after dating for about three years. The marriage ceremony took place at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in San Antonio. They had four daughters.

Vivian was fed up with Cash’s drug abuse lifestyle and other strange behavior so she filed for divorce which brought the marriage to an end in 1966.

Cash met June Carter of the famed Carter Family. He had a relationship with her and married her on March 1, 1968, in Franklin, Kentucky. Cash, together with June had one child. In all Jonny Cash had 5 children. June died in 2003.

Is Jonny Cash Still Alive?

Cash died on September 12, 2003, at the age of 71 years.

What Was The Religion Of Jonny Cash?

Cash was born as a Baptist in the Christian religion. He had his baptism as a born-again Christian in 1944 in the Tyronza River as a member of the Central Baptist Church of Dyess.

He had several speeches declaring his faith in God. He chose to be a Christian rather than obsessed with denominational doctrines.

Johnny is said to have completed a Bible study course together with his wife June through Christian International Bible College. Cash was a religious man who never felt ashamed of his faith in Jesus. He even became an ordained minister.

In his effort to overcome his drug addiction, he became friends with Billy Graham who is a renowned Christian preacher.

He even attended Billy Graham’s crusade in 1987 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Cash said:

“It is the icing on the Christian cake, to be able to perform on these Crusades,” “I love to appear with Billy; I love to hear him preach.”

In his Christian life, Cash recorded several gospel albums. Interestingly he had time to make a spoken-word recording of the entire New King James Version of the New Testament.

He believed he is an undeserving sinner who needs the grace and salvation of God. His effort to live a godly life was recognizable by everyone.

Visitors to Jonny Cash’s gravesite could read “Meet Me in Heaven” on his tombstone which is just outside of Nashville.
